"Designed as an immersion in Gabriel Fauré's chamber music, the double album recorded by the pianist Simon Zaoui with Pierre Fouchenneret on the violin, Raphaël Merlin on the cello and the tenor David Lefort, unlocks the secrets of Fauré’s late style. In spite of their quasi hermetic density, the French composer's scores still retain the charm of his youthful works where his melodic genius was more direct.
If Fauré knew the German composers, his expression is of a different sort. No extravagant effusion in his music but an intimate emotion that is perfectly restored here. Around the pianist Simon Zaoui, who subtly underlines the serious gravity of the last three Nocturnes, the musicians perform Fauré’s sonatas, trios and the autumnal melodies of L'Horizon chimérique."

"Conçu comme une immersion dans la musique de chambre de Gabriel Fauré, le double album enregistré par le pianiste Simon Zaoui entouré de Pierre Fouchenneret au violon, Raphaël Merlin au violoncelle et le ténor David Lefort, lève le voile sur les arcanes du style tardif du compositeur français. D’une densité mystérieuse, parfois perçue comme hermétique à la fin de sa vie, les partitions de Fauré conservent tout le charme de ses œuvres de jeunesse au génie mélodique plus direct.
Si Fauré connaît les compositeurs allemands, son expression est d’une tout autre nature. Pas d’effusion extravertie chez lui mais une émotion intériorisée - parfaitement comprise et restituée ici : se succédant auprès du piano inspiré de Simon Zaoui (qui apparaît en soliste dans les trois derniers Nocturnes), les musiciens interprètent qui une sonate ou un trio, qui les mélodies automnales de L’Horizon chimérique avec une compréhension absolue de l’inspiration fauréenne, véritable poésie de l’intime."
